Prof. Dr. Hannes Federrath

Hannes Federrath studied computer science and received his doctorate from the Technical University of Dresden in the field of mobile communication security. Between 2000 and 2001, he held a professorship at the Free University of Berlin and subsequently headed the security group there as a senior research assistant. From 2003 to 2011, Prof. Federrath held a chair in business informatics with a special focus on the management of information security. Since 2011, he has been head of the Security in Distributed Systems (SVS) department at the University of Hamburg. His areas of work are cyber security, security management, cryptography, mobile computing and privacy-friendly techniques. Current research projects include critical infrastructure protection, interdisciplinary aspects of IT security, protection of patient data in medical registries and monitoring of IT systems for attack detection and defence. From 2018 to 2022, he was president of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI).
