Prof. Dr. Peter Pelz

Professor Peter Pelz studied mechanical engineering and mathematics at the TH Darmstadt and Trinity College Dublin. After working as an assistant and doing his doctorate under Professor J. H. Spurk, he joined the Freudenberg company in Weinheim in 1998 as head of fluid mechanics and rheology and later as head of advanced development in Hamburg. In 2006, he was appointed to the TU Darmstadt. Today, 25 scientific staff work at his Institute for Fluid Systems Technology on topics ranging from tribology, cavitation and vibrations to urbanisation and water supply.

From 2013 to 2021, Prof. Pelz headed the DFG SFB 805 "Control of uncertainty in load-bearing systems in mechanical engineering". In 2021, he was appointed founding spokesperson for the TU Darmstadt research field E+E (Energy + Environment). Since 2020, together with Prof. Schmitt (RWTH Aachen), he has formed the spokesperson team for the National Research Data Infrastructure for the Engineering Sciences. Together with Prof'in Herres Pawlis (REWH Aachen), he was elected spokesperson of the Training & Education Section of the NFDI e.V.. In 2021 he initiated the foundation of the journal ing.grid "Fair Data Management in Engineering Sciences" of which he is Editor-in-Chief. Prof. Pelz has initiated two spin-offs. He has been a key researcher at Industrial Science GmbH, Darmstadt, since 2012.
